Luke Smith's (age 2) type of leukemia is very rare and very aggressive. During this profoundly difficult time, it's vital for this family to have the chance to create joyful memories together. Our aim is to cover all associated costs with a memorable family trip so that they can fully focus on cherishing precious moments without the weight of financial concerns. While cancer may take so much from them, it cannot diminish the love and joy they can share in their time together.
Luke's mom, Rachel, posted this on Facebook: "Luke's type of leukemia is rare and aggressive. For curious minds it's 16;21 fus::erg. With how rare and aggressive it is, coupled with the fact that he is only 6 months post transplant.. his body can't handle the chemo and it would literally kill him, and if it didn't kill him he has less than a 10% chance of curative survival. The other option was to go home with palliative chemo and hospice, and that is the choice we made. It was not the choice we wanted to make, but it was the best choice for Chung. His body never recovered before the relapse. The doctors estimate luke will continue to do good for the next 2 to 3 weeks, but after that Luke will start to fade over the next 3 to 6 months.”
