May is ALS Awareness Month. Let's raise as much money as possible for one of Iola's finest.
ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. The disease leads to muscle weakness and gets worse over time. ALS affects the muscles needed to move, speak, eat and breathe. There is no cure for this fatal disease, but research into new therapies is ongoing.
The fundraiser is for Jack Stanley. He served 36 years at USD 257 as a teacher, coach, counselor, assistant high school principal and middle school principal. He was diagnosed with ALS September 2025 after he experienced some weakness in his hands and some slurred speech. They are currently making modifications to their house so that he can continue enjoying our home at the lake.
